How Age Is Calculated
Age sounds simple, but precise calculation involves a few subtleties. The most accurate method accounts for leap years (which add an extra day every 4 years, with exceptions for century years) and the varying number of days in each month.
This calculator uses the exact millisecond difference between your birth date and the current moment, then converts that into human-readable units. According to the CDC National Vital Statistics System, age in official records is typically counted in completed years — but our calculator shows all units simultaneously.
The units explained
- Years: Completed calendar years since birth.
- Months: Total months elapsed, including partial years.
- Weeks: Total weeks, calculated as total days ÷ 7.
- Days: Exact number of days since your birth date.
- Hours / Minutes / Seconds: Derived from total milliseconds elapsed.
